Mrs. Mirjana Lazarova Trajkovska obtained her legal education at first at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University of Skopje (in 1986) and then at University of Ljubljana where she completed both her Master of Laws in 2007 and Doctor of Laws in 2012.  She started her career at the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Macedonia where she was employed for a total of fifteen years consecutively as Legal Representative, Assistant Minister, Head of the Department on Human Rights, and President of the State Election Commission. Further on, Mrs. Lazarova Trajkovska served as a Judge of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Macedonia.  Over the past ten years she has been employed at the European Court of Human Rights where she has performed functions of the Judge of the Republic of Macedonia and the President of the First Section.     

Mrs. Larazova Trajkovska has also been a member of several European organizations and commissions dealing with issues of human rights and elections.  In particular, she was a part of Steering Committee on Human Rights at the Council of Europe, Senior UN and OSCE ODIHR Expert on electoral matters, member of the Venice Commission, as well as the Legal Advisor for local elections in several countries.

Mrs. Lazarova Trajkovska’s academic record has been quite impressive as well. She has been a visiting professor and visiting fellow at universities in China, France, the USA and the UK.  She is also the author of various scholarly publications relating to human rights and freedom of expression in European countries.
